Ministry to the Aged (MTA) is a Christian, non-denominational, non-profit organization founded in 1979. MTA is a one-of-a-kind program in the community serving care centers in Boise, Eagle, Meridian, Nampa, and Caldwell. MTA contracts with care centers to provide chaplain services within these care centers.
MTA Mission
MTA chaplains strive to meet the pastoral/spiritual needs of care center residents, their families and care center staff.
MTA: A Valued Resource
More than 90% of elderly people identify themselves as being religious/spiritual. Religion and spirituality often play a vital role in people’s lives–this is especially true for the elderly. (1)
Residents in assisted living facilities and long-term care facilities are assessed for their religious preferences/needs by care center staff. MTA chaplains may assist care facilities to meet the pastoral/spiritual needs of residents based on these assessments. MTA chaplains also provide feedback to staff regarding resident’s spiritual needs.
“The chaplain is an important part of our community… a safe place for us to turn when we are faced with difficult times in our lives. Whether we are dealing with grief, illness or loneliness, the chaplain is there to nurture us with uplifting words. Many of us have taken our spiritual lives very seriously; the chaplain keeps us in touch with that part of ourselves.”
